Beauty Secrets: 5 Tips for Keeping Gorgeous This Winter

Winter really can wreak havoc with our skin, either causing dull, dry, flaky patches or over-sensitive spotty flare-ups. Dry heat indoors and sudden drops in outdoor temperature all combine to cause lacklustre, irritated skin. So here at MyaBlueBeachwear we give you the lowdown on maintaining well-nourished, smooth and glowing skin this winter.

  1. Prep your skin: The first step to a flake-free face is to apply a light exfoliant and a rich moisturizer or day cream. Whether you choose a designer option, or a supermarket own, both these steps are vital for healthy, glowing skin. Alternatively, natural options, such as coconut or jojoba oils are just as effective. Before applying makeup, let your moisturiser sink in for three to four minutes, then pat away any excess shine with a tissue.
  2. Apply SPF: Whilst we all slather it on when we’re on holiday, it is all too easy to forget that it is just as important to apply SPF in the winter months as it is during the summer. SPF protects us from harmful UV rays, including those that are reflected up from snow. It also creates a protective barrier against harsh wind and extreme cold temperatures. What’s not to like!
  3. Winter-proof your eye make-up: Runny cold-air eyes? Swap your regular wax-based eyeliner for a silicone one. Water repellent, the silicone is easy to work-with, meaning that you can both smudge over your eye-lid and line the inner rim. This really works, so that you can look glamorous, whatever the weather.
  4. Nourish your lips: Come freezing temperatures and icy winds, chapped lips are a common problem. Make sure that you regularly apply an intensive moisturiser, such as Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream. This cult skin protectant, will not only guard against the weather, but restores, calms and relieves dry, chapped skin. An award-winnning celebrity, model and make-up artist favourite, it can also be used on cuticles, hands, elbows and feet. If you are wearing a lipstick, make sure that it is a moisturising one, as frosted or shimmery options often only emphasise and aggravate dry lips.
  5. Apply SPF: Whilst we all slather it on when we’re on holiday, it is all too easy to forget that it is just as important to apply SPF in the winter months as it is during the summer.
